Our newly designed Unit Crest Represents all of what the CL-144 Division Represents and stands for. Around the Crest You first notice a Chain. The chain represents the bond we create within our division, the Family we develop into, and the Team we challenge ourselves to always be. Within you notice the inscription of USS WORCESTER - CL-144 the namesake of our unit. We are named for the USS Worcester CL-144 which was the second namesake ship named after the city of Worcester Massachusetts, where we still currently drill. It was the lead ship of its class of light cruisers Combining destroyer maneuverability with cruiser size and given a main battery that could deal not only with surface targets but with aircraft as well. Worcester embodied many of the lessons learned during World War II; she and her sister ship Roanoke epitomized the dual-purpose cruiser. On the interior of the crest you notice the Massachusetts, and Worcester City Emblems. You can also see an exact replica model of the ship within the crest. Lastly Our unit is a family and we are a brotherhood. The bond we make, and the bond we share continues for generations. Many of our volunteers are Cadets, Former Cadets (Alumni), or their family, and most are military Veterans. With that being said the final piece to our unit crest is the 6 Gold Stars. In the military community a gold star represents someone Killed in Action or in active combat. The last and final piece to our crest is the 6 gold stars of our unit, not all went on to serve in the armed forces but all are apart of our family bond, and Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
